Bylaws of
The Memmott Family Association
A Utah Nonprofit Corporation - August 03, 2001

ARTICLE 1 - NAME AND PURPOSE

Section 1 - The name of the organization shall be The Memmott Family Association.
Section 2 - The Memmott Family Association is organized for the purpose of promoting the family relationships of the Memmott family through genealogical research, family reunions and such other events that may be deemed advisable as conducive to building family unity.

ARTICLE 2 - MEMBERSHIP

Section 1 - Membership in the Memmott Family Association is bestowed upon all persons who are members of the family, through either birth or adoption, as descendants of William and/or John Memmott, and by marriage to those who are descendants. These are William Memmott and John Memmott who immigrated to Utah, in 1861 and 1855 respectively, as reflected in the family genealogy files.

Section 2 - Voting members shall include those family members, as defined in Section 1 of this Article, that are in attendance at any family meeting called by the President or Board of Directors. Proxy voting is not permitted. The husbands and wives of members in good standing are welcomed into associate membership of this Family Association, with full voting power. A spouse may be elected to any office, except President, First Vice President and Second Vice President


 
[all of whom must be lineal descendants] or appointed to any Committee.
ARTICLE 3 - MEETINGS

Section 1 - Regular meetings of the full membership are expected to be held at least annually at which time the officers shall be elected by majority vote of those family members in attendance. Meetings of the Board of Directors will be called by the President in addition to the annual reunion.   
Section 2 - Special meetings of the full membership may be called as needed by the President or the Board of Directors between the regular meetings.

Section 3 - Notice of each meeting of the full membership shall be given to those who maintain their names and current addresses on the mailing list of the organization at least thirty days prior to the scheduled meeting. Those in attendance at such meetings shall constitute a quorum for purposes of conducting the business of the organization.


ARTICLE 4 - BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Section 1 - The Board of Directors shall consist of the Officers of the organization. The Board is responsible for organizing the meetings of the membership and other events used to promote family unity.

Section 2 - The Board shall meet as needed to plan the meetings and events for the family, authorize Officers to sign contracts necessary for the holding of those events, and to authorize the opening of checking accounts and the signature authorizations for such accounts. The special events at regular meetings may be planned and organized by a committee appointed by the Board.

Section 3 - Election of Officers of the Board shall occur at the time of each meeting of the full membership of the Memmott Family Association. Such elections shall not occur at other special events with limited attendance except as provided in Article 4, Section 6. Officers may be eligible for re-election, but not consecutive or in succession.

Section 4 - An official Board meeting may be called by the President with two weeks’ notice to each Board member of the time and place of the meeting. An effort will be made to accommodate all members. At least three members present shall constitute a quorum. Telephone conferencing may be utilized for such meetings.

Section 5 - The Officers of the organization and their duties shall be as follows:
President shall be responsible for convening all business meetings of the full membership and the Board and will chair all such meetings as required by these Bylaws. The President will serve a two (2) years term.
First Vice President shall be responsible for presiding at all called meetings in the absence of the President and assisting the President in planning family meetings. The First Vice President after training for two years under the President becomes the President.
Second Vice President shall assist the President and the First Vice President. The Second Vice President trains under the President and First Vice President before becoming the First Vice President.
Secretary shall be responsible for keeping records of the organization's membership, actions of the Board and the full membership business meetings, sending out meeting announcements, and assuring that all other records are maintained.
Treasurer shall maintain the financial records of the organization, pay all valid bills of the organization, and report to the organization on the financial information.
Family Historian/Genealogist, It shall be the duty of the Family Historian/Genealogist to maintain a master file of all records of the Association, including Family Group Sheets, a card index file of all Memmott descendants and their spouses, biographies, photographs, and reference material. It shall be the duty of the Family Historian to supervise and direct the compilation and writing of biographical records, family histories, and personal histories of Memmott progenitors and descendants, and to serve as Senior Editor of any and all genealogical and historical books published by the Association. Assistants may be selected as necessary, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors, and will be organized as a permanent History Committee within the family organization.
WebMaster, It shall be the duty of the Webmaster to maintain the Memmott Family Association Blog site. Assistants may be selected as necessary, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors, and will be organized as a permanent Committee within the Association.
Section 6 - When a vacancy on the Board exists due to resignation or death, the Board shall be responsible for filling the vacancy until the next meeting of the full membership.

Section 7 - Family members are encouraged to communicate all genealogical information for their individual family units to the Board for recording in the combined genealogical records for the Memmott Family Association. Those records will be maintained on computerized genealogy systems and backed up periodically for safekeeping purposes. Family members may request data from those records for their personal files as needed.

Section 8 - The Board may appoint any member of Memmott Family Association to serve on Committees to assist with the planning and organizing of meetings and events.


ARTICLE 5 - AMENDMENTS

Section 1 - These Bylaws of the Memmott Family Association may be amended when necessary by a two-thirds majority vote of the membership at any called meeting of the full membership. Notice of such proposed amendments will be mailed with the notice of the meeting.

Missionary Journal of Elder Forrest Whitham Memmott July 1906


July 1, 1906 – It is the first day of July & fast Sunday we fasted all day spent most of the day resting and walking  I walked down to the ice plant with Bro Payne after supper we had ice cream  Elder Bishop took a stroll to East Radford  we went and laid down on some grass next to the RR tract and talked about our past life.

July 2, 1906 – It is a beautiful morning  I have been down to the Store to get me a pair of shoes  I had to go to the East end to get them.  I got me a good pair 3.50  After dinner we went canvassing in the West end  I sold a book of moron  we had a good time we went to the post some letters after supper  When we came back we found Pres Broadbent and too other Elders  we was glad to see them Elder Bishop & another Elder went over to Sister Waddell.

July 3, 1906 – It looks very much like storm Pres Broadbent Whitney & I done some writing before breakfast Elders Bishop & Bours came over from sister Wadell we all talked & went down to see them off it started to raining it rained very hard  We went to Bro Furrows & ate our dinner about 4 oclock  I went and got the paper & some tracts.  We canvass a little while give away 20 tracts spent night sister Payne

July 4, 1906 – Ha Ha Ha – All Happy Dead broke  To day is the fourth of July it is a very nice day. We had to go to the train to meet Pres Broadbent  he did not come.  We went up to Bro Furrows and got our dinner than took a walk out to the fair grounds there was very large crowd of people there.  There were some horse races & pacing races  We left there about 4 oclock to go to East R.  we got our mail.  I was glad to here form home.  There was a negro show and a few fites on hand.  We was bot broke so we did not spend much we had a good time any way seeing the sites  There was a good many hundred people out.

July 5, 1906 – It is the day after the fourth & a lovely day  we are feeling fine after the big time we had.  Pres Broadbent came about 11 oclock we met him with his grip.  He bid us good-bye for he was going to Ohio to labor on the 20th.  Elder Bishop got his money from the office.  We went out in the after noon & canvass a few houses stopped with Bro. Furrows.

July 6, 1906 – It is very cloudy this morning looks very much like storm.  We went down to the West and end to see a lady about some money for a book & she was not at home  we came back & stopped a little while with sister J. Payne. & paid her for our Board it cost us 1.00 a piece for a week.  We came back to Bro Furrows & after dinner we went out to canvass a little while we gave 59 tracts away.  In the evening we went to a Sanktafied meeting  They prayed about a dozen times We got back about 9:30.

July 7, 1906 – It looks very much like storm this morning  I walked down to the RR yard where Bro Furrows boys working.  Came back Elder Bishop had gone to the Christianburg to see if could canvass it. I gave out 24 tracts & had some good talks on religion  Elder bishop & I met at Bro Furrows.  He got the privilege to canvass Christianburg.

July 8, 1906 – Today is Sunday it is a very nice day we held a meeting about 10:30 in the morning & had a very good time Bro & Sister Furrows was the audience.  We had the Sacrament passed around.  Elder Bishop & I spoke a short time each.  Had some good talks on religion explaining the principles of the gospel  Attended a Sanklified meeting.

July 9, 1906 – The nights are a little cold we have about got Radford canvass.  We took a bath in the morning.  In the afternoon we went & canvassed a little while give away 42 tracts I met up with two who was very predicust [prejudice] I had some good talks on religion

July 10, 1906 – We are very near through with Radford we spent the A.M. in reading I P.M. we went 7 finished canvass  We will leave for Christiansburg tomorrow I went out to one of our friends to see her about a Book of Mormon her husband did not want her to keep it but she said she wanted it.  I left it with her she said she would send the money.  I came back to Bro Furrow and spent the last night for a while.

July 11, 1906 – We was intending to go to Christainburg our mail did not get in we was compelled to stay we spent the night with Sister Payne reading and studying most of the day.

July 12, 1906 – We bid out saints & friend good-by at Sister Payne & went down to the P.O. I got 3 letters and they were the welcomest letters I ever got in my life.  I read & it said I had got a little baby sister  & folks was doing fine I was the happiest boy in Va.  After dinner we left Bro. Furrow for Christianburg stopped to the Hotel.

July 13, 1906 – We started on Christianburg this morning worked hard all day & had good success had many good talks on religion give away 117 tracts I give 56 and at night I was very tired at night my hip was very tired.

July 14, 1906 – We finished Christianburg this morning & Cambria  We decided to go & see Bro Meacham we road in the train to Shawsville & walked the rest of the way we came to a small river and took a bath then laid down on the grass & took a small nap.  We got to Bro Meacham about 4:30 in the afternoon.  I went up to the orchard & ate a lot of peaches We stayed up talking on religion until 11 oclock.

July 15, 1906 – Today is Sunday  we are having a long talk on religion  Bro Meacham is very interested in the Elders & our doctrine  it rained most all day in the afternoon Bro Meacham & I went up to the orchard & got a bucket of peaches.  We held a meeting in the evening  & had a very enjoyable time.

July 16, 1906 – We left Bro. Meacham for Blacksburg we came to one of the Elders friends and ate dinner with them then we started on our way we walked a little while and laid down to rest while we was there 6 freights came by it was a site to see one right behind another We tried to stop but we was not successful we went to bed with Uncle Sam under a large apple tree.

July 17, 1906 – We got up feeling a little tough but we was happy we got to refresh before we got breakfast our bed was little hard I the shade of the old apple tree we did not feel very good all day  we got to Blacksburg in the afternoon & stopped to the Hotel:  we were so sleepy we could hardly hold our eyes open went to bed about half past seven.

July 18, 1906 – We canvass Blacksburg 7 started for Radford.  We walked about 8 miles and stopped with a nice old gentleman he treated us fine.  The Blackberry are getting ripe. & I have a feast every day At night we ate some apples & talked on religion some.

July 19, 1906 – We started for East Radford & got their about noon Bro. Furrow was sleep after dinner we went down to the P.O. to get our mail I did not get a letter from home only one from James he was well I wondered what was the matter at home they had forgotten their boy awful quick.  But I thought they must be all right are I would of head from them I am enjoying my labors fine only I cant walk very well stopped with Bro Furrow

THREE MONTHS


July 20, 1906 – We got up just as Bro Furrow came in from work about ten oclock we went up to Sister Payne.  We wrote a few letters I went to post them & brought me two pair of socks.  Elder Bishop & I had a long talk on religion.  It rained very hard in the first part of the night.  We stopped with Sister Payne.

July 21, 1906 – We left Sister Payne & went out to Sister Frost  we ate dinner & talk on religion Sister Frost said she was firm & would never change we bid them good by & went over to Sister Waddell & spent the night.  we sang some songs & enjoyed our selves very well.  It rained very hard during the day.

July 22, 1906 – today is very nice.  We got up feeling fine & enjoyed a good nights rest spent the morning & took dinner with Sister Waddell  bid her good-by & went out to Sister Payne.  After supper we talked some on religion  I went to bed & left them talking Elder Bishop was very sick most all night & did not rest very much.

July 23, 1906 – We got up this morning & every thing looked very nice. Elder Bishop was not very well.  We bid all the folks good by in Radford and started on our way for Lee Co.  We did not stop for dinner got to Bro Duncan about five oclock.  He had a meeting appointed for us we had a very good time Bro. Duncan treated us fine had a very good time.

July 24, 1906 – We came to little river and pulled off our shoes & stockings & wadded across  We walked until one oclock and got a can of oyster & some crackers  we walked until it started to rain very hard  it was only about 2 miles to Bro Ayers we had a good nights sleep and enjoyed our selves fine.

July 25, 1906 – We are going to Bro Ayers today it is not far we got there about 10 oclock. They were all glad to see us.  I had my old complaint & was a little lame.  Bro Ayers was all well.  We had many good talk on religion

July 26, 1906 – We bid Bro Ayers folks all good by & left for Bro Marshell Elder Bishop got him a pair of shoes at their store we got to Bro J. H. Marshall’s in the afternoon & he was over to the store came back about 8 oclock he was glad to see us it rained most of the night.

July 27, 1906 – We went down to another Bro Marshall’s & spent the day & night we did not get our mail.  We had many good talks on religion in the evening we held a meeting and had a very good meeting it rained most of the nights.

3 MONTHS SINCE I LEFT HOME


July 28, 1906 – We went to Uncle A.S. March 7 held a meeting & had a very good time we spent the night there it rained some we got up feeling very good it was a little foggy  We had several gospel talks we got our mail  & we was to stay here and canvass this county.

July 29, 1906 – Today is Sunday  we are going to hold meeting the School house we went down to Hesicah & he went with us.  We had a very good meeting.  A large crowd was there & paid good attention in the evening we held another meeting. 

July 30, 1906 – We was going to leave for Grayson Co to see some of our saints but we did not here from Elder Stone to know how much of the Co was to be canvass.  We wrote some letters on a typewriter & some songs.  We had some talks on religion.

July 31, 1906 – We left Bro Marshall to go to Frico for our mail we could not get any dinner so we got a can of Tomatoes.  We walked about 12 miles * stopped with a hard shell Baptist.  Elder Bishop & him had some pretty bad agreement.  It started to rain in the evening and rained very hard.

Missionary Journal of Elder Forrest Whitham Memmott June 1906


June 1, 1906 – It is the first of June and very hot the months soon come and go for I am busy at work and I am feeling very well only my leg does bother me all of the time.  I met up with a woman who was very bitter against us she abused me but I did not care.  We passed thru Eliston Co. went and stopped with Bro Meachom who was investigation our religion he read much of our books and said he thought it was all right.

June 2, 1906 – We are going to rest up for my leg is a little sore and Sister Meacham wanted us to stop with her for she has been having very much trouble.  She lost one of her little boys and one of her daughters has lost her mind.  I went and picket some straw berries there are lots of them here and I enjoy eating them very much.  We had several talks on the religion we are preaching Bro. Meacham is investigation our religion he has got him a book of Mormon I got some what lonesome but I think what I am out here for.

June 3, 1906 – today is Sunday and we are staying with Bro Meacham I have got the rheumatism until I can hardly walk.  We went to meeting it was a Methodist they did not have much of a meeting I did not think but I enjoyed see the people in there religion the face shows it is not the work a God. We enjoyed our self very much.

June 4, 1906 – We left Bro Meacham and started to work we visited Elliston & Lafayette we found the people very friendly and some a little bitter.  I am getting to work it is getting a little old to me I give away 23 tracts and had many good talks with the people.  I have got the Rheumatism so bad I can hardly walk.

June 5, 1906 – After breakfast we decided to go over to Salem and stay a few days for my leg was so bad I could walk & we thought it best to stop a few days and doctor it up.  Elder Bishop had been over their several times there is a few families of saints over there and they have a meeting house.  We got there about noon and it started to rain after dinner and rained most of the after-noon we spent a few hours with Sister Bowman then went over and spent the night with Bro & Sister Ferguson we had a very enjoyable time talking for they are some jolly people.  I was interested in reading the New to see how the big dam was I was glad to here it was all right

June 6, 1906 --  We went to see some of our saints and to spend a short while with them for they were all glad to see us.  As we was going to Sister Grace we stopped and ate a few cherries they was very nice.  Bro Ferguson had a ladder in the trees.  We went and spent the night with sister Grice  After I had got to bed I took with the cholery marbus it was about one oclock when I got to sleep.  I don’t think I want any more cherries for a few days.

June 7, 1906 – I got up feeling a little sick for I did not get much sleep until early in the morning.  We stopped with Sister Grace until in the after noon.  Just before dinner there bees swarmed.  Elder Bishop & I helped them to get them in a hive.  While we were in eating dinner another stand swarmed  I did not eat much dinner for I did not feel very well.  I went over to sister Furgerson’s and stopped there most of the afternoon talking to his daughters they belong to our church and they were very nice girls elder Bishop had gone to the P. Office to see if there was any mail  he go to talking and did not get back until almost sun down.  We stopped with Sister Boham.

June 8, 1906 – We are visiting all of the saints we left Sister Boham and went to the P.O. to see if there was any mail but there was not we went and spent the night with Bro Webster.  We took dinner with Bro Fergerson he had lost his wife a few weeks ago.  Elder Bishop & and I went up the creek and washed our feet for mine was getting so sore I could hardly walk.

June 9, 1906 – We spent most all of the day with Bro Ferguson talking on religious matters.  We got our mail.  I had a good time enjoying the conversation of Bishop & Bro Fergurson.  We spent the night with him and enjoyed hearing his daughter play the piano.

June 10, 1906 – to-day is Sunday and a very nice day.  We held meeting at ten oclock  there was a very food attendance out to it we took dinner with Sister Ferguson and we held meeting at half past three.  There was about as many out I the afternoon as there was in the forenoon we spent the night with Sister Boham.

June 11, 1906 – We are going to start on our labor again this morning we have been resting a week.  We have got a large mt to cross and the sun is very hot walked about eight and came to a branch we stopped and took a bath and come on our way we walked until evening and stopped with a friend Bro. Richardson he treated us very nice.

June 12, 1906 – It looks very much like storm & is very cold we are busy at work again we passed by the Tide Water railroad  they are doing a big business  I had a long talk with a man explaining the principles of the gospel as I understood we only got lost one  & walked about 2 miles out of our way we stopped with a friend named Wn. Varden he is a nice man and treats the elders fine.

June 13, 1906 – It was raining when we got up this morning and was a very cold day we did not think we will travel any to-day  it was raining when we ate our dinner we spent most of the day talking on religious matters I have got Rheumatism until I can hardly walk  if it don’t get better in a few days I am going to Richmond.

June 14, 1906 --  It has been raining for a few days and is very foggy this morning we are going to start out on our travels the air is so heavy a person can hardly get their breath we walked all day through the mud.  I got my mail and was very glad to here from home.  We had some difficult in finding a place to spend the night we thought we would have to stop with Uncle Sam & his beds are not very good.

June 15, 1906 – It looks very much like storm to-day and is a little cold we are going over in to Giles Co to see some of our saints and stay until it clears up we got to Bro Kirk about 11 oclock and it started to rain a few minutes after we got their after dinner we went down to some more of our saints & was going to hold a meeting but they could not come so we had to put it off we spent the night with Bro. Kirk.

June 16, 1906 – It is still stormy and very muddy  we are stopping with one of or saints  We spent most of the day talking on religion.  At night we held a meeting at Bro Miers and had a very good time we walked back to Bro Ratcliff and spent the night.

June 17, 1906 – It is Sunday to day Elder Bishop is going over to the church preaching at Mt Lake  I am going to stay at Bro Ratcliff and rest up.  S. Ratcliff.  Stopped home with me and we had a good time eating cherries At night I helped him milk.  We held a meeting & stopped with Bro Ratcliff.

June 18, 1906 – It looks very much like storm.  We were going to Montgomery Co. but sister Myers wanted us to stay with them one evening Bro. Myers got a stick of goint powder and laid it on a rock and shot and hit it with a rifle it made lots of noise went up and ate some cherries

June 19, 1906 – We left Bro Myers and started for Montgomery Co.  it is about two miles to the line  we walked down a little valley for about ten miles  there was not many families living on the road.  It started to rain in the evening we found a place to spent the night.

TWO MONTHS


June 20, 1906 – It is little foggier to day after the hard rain  we had last night we have got a large Mt to cross over we walked until we was almost give out.  We had good success all day.  I left Elder Bishop and went about 2 mile canvassing while he sleep when I got back he was waiting we got a place to spend the night with some pleading.

June 21, 1906 – It is a very beautiful morning the birds are singing we are going to get our mail at McDaniel’s Mills.  We went and got it.  I was glad to here from home for I have been wondering how they all are.  We started on our way to Blacksburg.  We stopped with a man by the name of Smith

June 22, 1906 – We are about a mile from Blacksburg  we walked in an I had my watch fixed it cost me 50¢ We took a back road and canvass it we got on a road to Christianburg  we came to one of our friends near the coal bank.

June 23, 1906 – It is a very beautiful morning  We are going toward Blacksburg The place where we ate dinner there was a preacher he talked a little with us We went to the coal mines we had a good time but I was a little homesick we got a place to stay all night.

June 24, 1906 – Today is Sunday we are at a little cottage on a back road we spent most of the day in reading & writing in the afternoon the  man went to Christainburg & we had to leave the people was a little predigest there was two boys came looking for us  we was resting in the woods  they had been drinking  we meet two men that was going the same way as we was they showed us the way.  We found a place to stop.  There was a Methodist meeting we went and heard him preach there was a great many people there.  I was very tired when we got back it was about ten oclock.

June 25, 1906 – It is a very nice day the birds are singing we are in the mining camps of Mt C.  They are coal mines we had good success in our labor  I sold 3 books my companion he sold one it was the best days work we have done  But we did not get any dinner it clouded up in the after noon but did not rain but very little we stopped at the poor house farm. 

June 26, 1906 – We have nearly got all of the county canvass our tracts run out & we had to quit we went to Christianburg Station & got on the train & road to East Redford  We did not get any dinner spent the night with Sister Payne

June 27, 1906 – We went out to East Radford to see bro Ferrows he was at home sleeping he had been working on the RR yard  we ate dinner with him & went and saw the City mayor  he gave us permission to canvass the town.  We got our mail in the evening.  I received a dollar bill from my father all was well Hettie had been sick I was glad to get a letter from home & to know was feeling better spent the night with Sister Payne.

June 28, 1906 – It is a very nice morning we started tracing in the after noon  I got me a new collar.  I met up with a man in labor who run me out of his lot he said he did not want any thing to do with the Mormons.  After we got throng convesing we pressed our pants.  Them went down to the East End and I got a crystal put in my watch I had some good talks in religion.

June 29, 1906 – It is very warm morning & every thing looks beautiful we are canvassing in West Radford & having a good success the people treat us fine.  I had a long talk on religion explaining it we spent the rest of the day with sister Frost  she enjoys the elders company very much  after supper we went to East Radford & got some tracts for we was most out.  I received some money from the Office.  We are stopping with Sister Payne.

June 30, 1906 – Ha, ha, it is the last day of June it has been a little warm but there has been a breeze all day and that made it a little more pleasant  We have been canvassing the west part of Radford  I had good success met up with a minister & had a talk on religion  He said the Mormons was not good American Citizens & insulted me but that showed his religion.  After we had got our supper we went to the store I got me a pair of shoes.  Elder Bishop & I are having good times enjoying our selves in our work  I am getting a little more use to the work Ha ha ha

Missionary Journal of Elder Forrest Whitham Memmott Beginning of Mission-May 1906

I will be posting the Missionary Journal of Forrest Memmott in sections here on the blog.  You will be able to access all posts by clicking on the Forrest W. Memmott button at the top of the blog. Jay and Arlene Memmott gave the Journal to George and Rosalie Nolan. George transcribed the Journal and placed the pictures. The pictures are from Larry and Kathy Memmott who found the pictures in Grandpa Farr's mission box. The pictures have been placed where it seems they match what had been written in the Journal.

Diary:

Mr. Forrest Memmott travels and works while on a mission.  Left Scipio on the 21st of April 1906.  Went to Salt lake City and stayed until the 25th of April.  Then started by the way of the Union Pacific on the 25th of April 6 P.M.

Traveled through the city or Ogden, Rawlins, Laramie, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis.

Arrived in Chattanooga on the 29 of Apr was set apart to labor in Virginia.  Went to Richmond was sent to labor in the county of Halifax Co. Started my labor on the 4 day of May.

Elder Bishop and I revisited families and had a very joy able time was entertained Cread Taylor Cody and was treated fine I canvass too houses which I enjoyed very well and left them some pamphlets to read.  I got some what tired walking but after I ate some dinner I felt much better We, I & Elder Bishop, stop at CR Roland and I enjoyed myself fine there was a shower came up in the afternoon Elder Bishop & I very near got wet. We held a meeting in the evening on the 5th day of May 1906.

I spoke a few minutes on the truthfulness of the gospel and bore my testimony.  We had a very good time to gather Elder Bishop give a very nice speech.

On the 5 May 1906 Elder Bishop & I held Sunday School at C.R. Rowland had a very good attendance & enjoyed our selves fine  We had a testimony meeting most all bore a testimony to the truthfulness of the gospel  In the afternoon we held a meeting and had a very good attendance I spoke a few minutes on the truthfulness of the gospel & told some of my testimony I had received.

We stopped at James Woodson and enjoyed ourselves fine.  On our way I fell over a log and made a swelling on both of my legs I did not get very sore but I was lame for a few days.

May 8, 1906 – It looks very much like storm this morning but Elder Bishop and I are going to leave for Brites  We started and on our way we meet a man and he directed us wrong we went the way he told us and got lost we walked for a long ways we came to a farm the man told us which way to we was all right  We went to Mrs. Kuns and ate dinner their started for Brites we walked very long while until we came their at last I was a little tired  We stopped to T.T. Adams and was treated fine after supper I felt fine and was not very tired then  Brother Adams daughter played organ Elder Bishop & I sang a few songs then we retired for the night.

May 9, 1906 – Elder Bishop and I stayed to Sisters Adams while she done some washing for us.  I was some what lonesome for I had nothing to do only read & my eyes would get tired I enjoyed my self fine  We had Sacrament meeting and I enjoyed my self fine  it was a cold day the wind was blowing very hard.

May 9, 1906 – It looked like storm this morning and is very cold  We left Bro Adams for Ajax is a long ways to go  We crossed Joig river on a large bridge and meet several men and talked some on the gospel  we arrive to Bro Blankspif about sun down and was very nicely treated

May 10, 1906 – There was a very heavy frost and it was very cold  Elder Bishop and I started for Tailors Store from Ajax is a long distance so we had to walk very hard we walked until dinner time and I was going to ask for dinner we went to a house and I told them who we was and Elder Bishop he was standing listing to me talk  She ask us in and he all right and Elder Bishop ask for some dinner so I very near came asking for some after dinner we started for Tailors Store.  We walked until I was very near give out  We go to Tailors Store about a hour before sun down we got out mail and I got a letter from Elder James Memmott and was very glad to here from him we heard of some saints about two miles away we walked out here and got their about sun down I had all the walk I wanted we had come 20 miles  They had turned away from our religion said they wanted nothing to do with us They let us stop with them and was treated very well  There names were Crouch

May 11 --  Elder Bishop & I walked from Mr. Crouch to Tailors Store there was some pamphlets & other packages there  We had our grips full  & they a little heavy  We left Tailors Store and walked about 3 miles and called to a house and got out dinner   After dinner we walked for a short distance and went out in the woods and rote some letters  it was getting nearly night so we started to find a place to stop we came to a man & a boy plowing  He invited us to come and stop with him his name was J H Fisher.

May 12, 1906 – We called in a few houses and canvass them It was getting very warm so Elder Bishop and I went into the woods to sit in the shade and read  It did not take long for it to come dinner time  It was my turn to ask for dinner we went to a house & I ask for dinner & they to us to come in that pleased us.  After dinner we walked for a few miles and went in the woods for to read and to wait until it got cool when it got cool we started to walk we walked a short distance and Elder Bishop went to find out the right road he ask the man if we could stay with him  He said yes he was a Drunkard preacher his name was Bonvan.

May 14, 1906 – It was Sunday and a very fine day the gentleman where stopped was going off on Sunday morning so Elder Bishop and I had to travel  We walked a short distance and went into the woods for we did not want to walk on Sunday we spent most of the day in reading and writing letters about four oclock we started to find a place to stop we walking about five miles before we found a place to stop.  We stopped E.C. Akers he said we could stop but he did not want us to talk about religious matters.

May 14, 1906 – It is the first of the week Elder Bishop and I am enjoying our selves as we travel to wards Montgomery co.  I enjoy my self listening my companion talk with the ministers  I don’t have much to talk about on religious matters but I am trying learn to talk on it some We had a large Mt to climb over and it was very warm.  We got our dinner to a widows  We traveled over the top of the Mt and it look like it was all hills in Virginia  we walked along until it came night and stopped to J.D. Reed.  He treated us very nicely.

May 15, 1906 – We left the place where spent the night and started for Huffwill we came to Grove and Elder Bishop had a gospel conversation  We walked until we came to John Conner.  He invited us to eat dinner with him after dimmer he wanted to hold a cottage meeting after meeting started for one of our saints about a mile away we got there.  and after supper they wanted us to hold a meeting we held a meeting and had a very enjoyable time we spent the night with our saint and had a very nice time her name was Mary Lizziebeth Conner.

May 16, 1906 – Elder Bishop and had to lay over and wait for our mail we spent most of our time in reading in the morning  After dinner we went to the office and got some mail  we went back and read the news the rest of the day.  The San Francisco news had just came out and we wanted to see how had come out we stopped to a Saint named Mary Lizzibeth Conner.

May 17, 1906 – We left Sister Conner’s after dinner and went the office & got our mail I was very glad to get some letters from home for I had been away about 3 weeks and had not heard from home  I got five letters it took most of the day to read them we had a little difficult in getting a place to spend the night  we was refused four times  I tried it and got refused  Elder Bishop he got refused he said I could try this place he said it looked good to him.  I ask and the man said to come in he would to the best he could we said that was good enough

May 18, 1906 – We left the place where we stopped very early we walked until about ten oclock and went into the woods until it got a little cool when it came noon we went to a store and told him who we was and would like to have some dinner  he said he would give us a lunch out of the store  we told him that was all right of we ate our dinner we started on our way we past through Floyd the Co seat  we waked until night and came to a place and ask for entertainment he said all right to come in his name was J.D. Howell.

May 19, 1906 – We was going to try and get to one of our saints for Sunday so we had quite a walk  we ate dinner about two miles from the saints where we was going to spend Sunday. Elder Bishop knew the people.  They had moved from where they was living when he saw them we got their about five oclock and it started to rain in a few moments after we got there so we was lucky  There names was T.S. Ayers.  We had very enjoyable time.

May 20, 1906 – Elder Bishop & I had a very good time we was at one of our saints  we held a meeting I the afternoon and had a good congregation  Elder Bishop spoke for about ah hour explaining the gospel  we stopped to Sister Ayers.

ONE MONTH

May 21, 1906 --  Elder Bishop and I have been half soiling our shoes  I walk over to the store for some tacks we made a very neat job.  In the evening we held a meeting and had a very good time we wanted to rest up for we was getting a little leg weary and my feet was getting sore We stopped to Sister Ayers.

May 22, 1906 – I had a horse back ride  I road about 9 miles after a watch crystal  it made me so sore I could hardly walk.  After I got back we went over and help on some new ground  We did baptize one person in to the Church at night we held a sacrament meeting   the one we baptized was Ona Ayers.

May 23, 1906 – We left sister Ayers for Montgomery Co  it looked very much like storm  We walked until noon an got some dinner we had walked 11 ½ miles and I was little tired  after dinner I felt a lot better we went on our way we walked  until sundown and go refused a few times but there was a place provided for us & we stopped to a mans named J. C. Bishop.

May 24, 1906 – We started early for we had a long walk before us  We walked until noon and got some dinner  after dinner we started for Radford  we got their about 4 oclock  We stopped to sister Pain  Elder Bishop went after the mail  The line got down so the car stopped running & he had to walk back

May 25, 1906 – Elder Bishop & I are going rest for a few days for we have been traveling for about three weeks and are some what tired we walked out to East Radford to see one of our saints  he was feeling in the gospel  on our way back we stopped and saw a negro do some slight hand trick.  We came back to sister Pains to spend the night with her Elder Bishop thinks he is big cause he has go a new pair of pants.

May 26, 1906 – We wanted to go and visit some of our saints.  We went to West Radford shortly after we got to one of our saints it started to rain it rained most of the day.  It was very dry and dusty.  We went and saw pipe manufactory.

May 27, 1906 – It was Sunday and very stormy it rained most of the day.  Elder Bishop and I went to East Radford to hold meeting with Bro & sister Furrows we had a very good time after dinner we went across New River to see sister Waddell  we got there about three oclock and stopped with them all night.

May 28, 1906 – Elder Bishop & I was going to start to labor today but it is very stormy and the winds are blowing very hard.  We have decided to stay to day and see if it wont get a little better weather.  We stopped at sister Pains and read most of the day.  We walked down to the Post Office and to the store for we wanted some things

May 29, 1906 – We left Radford to start to labor we ate dinned with bro Ferrow we left his place and started for Christainburg  we walked about nine miles and had little difficult in getting a place to stay but we found one his name was H. C. Christman.  I had the Rheumatism in my right leg it is very hard for me to walk but I get along very well.

May 30, 1906 – We are busy at work canvassing through the Country.  We find some of the people a very bitter to-wards us  We have some difficult in getting places to stop but the Lord always provides for his servants  I cannot travel very well on the account of my leg but we get along very nicely.

May 31, 1906 – We got our mail at Bigtimel and I was very pleased to here from home we are at work tracting the homes of the people in Montgomery and we find some of them very bitter.  We came down the road by the Tide water RR there was many people working there as we was coming along they was blasting and a rock struck in front of us we came to a stream & washed our feet for they were getting sore then it came evening we had some difficult in finding a place to stop but there is always some good people that will keep us we came to a man and ask him and he told us no but we teased him a little while and he let us stay with him.
